Walter J. Doebler who lived on the farm for several years as a youth, said the Doebler homestead farm consisted of 20 Acres situated on each side of Ruie Road. A North Tonawanda 1908 City Atlas depicts two parcels of land owned by M. Doebler (Mary, William F. Doebler’s widow ). The first consisted of 300 front feet on Ruie Road extending 2,800 feet due south, totaling some 19 acres. A dwelling house, barn and two out buildings are shown on this parcel. A second parcel directly across Ruie Road consisted of 700 front feet, with a due north depth 1,400 feet, some 23 acres. The house number of the property after it became part of the City of North Tonawanda was 1140 Ruie Rd.
Ludwig’s Will mentioned the purchase of two parcels. The first in 1869 and the second in 1876, which would not be reflected in the 1875 States Census. The legal description reflected in Ludwig’s Will are; Town of Wheatfield being Township and 8th Range and nearer described in a Deed given by Barnhard Messing & wife to this testator, and dated November 24th 1869, recorded in Niagara County Clerk’s Office on the 24th day of January, 1870 in Liber 119 of Deeds page 94; and my Deed given by Augustus Duckwitz & wife to testator dated the First day of May 1876 in Liber 77 page 170
